Finding Presence and Gratitude Through Mindful Photography

For years, I lived caught up in the whirlwind of everyday life, always rushing, always thinking about what’s next or replaying what’s behind me. It wasn’t until I discovered photography as a tool for mindfulness that everything began to change.

When I first started using my camera to really slow down and observe, I realized how much I had been missing. The little details, the way sunlight filters through leaves, the gentle sway of wildflowers, the texture of tree bark were all there, waiting quietly to be noticed. Instead of capturing just an image, I was learning to capture presence itself.

Through this practice, I found myself becoming more grateful. Gratitude for the here and now, for the natural beauty around me, and for the simple moments that often go unnoticed in our busy lives. Photography became more than just a hobby; it became a meditation, a way to anchor myself in the present.

This shift helped me stop living in the past or worrying about the future. I began to appreciate the richness of each moment as it unfolded. And with journaling alongside photography, I found a deeper connection to my thoughts and feelings gently observing them without judgment.

That’s why I created Noticing the Natural, a one-hour online mindful photography and journaling session. In July’s session, we will focus on seasons:

  • Begin with a calming landing practice to centre ourselves and set positive intentions
  • Explore the natural world around us through mindful photography noticing textures, colours, light, and movement with new eyes
  • Reflect and deepen our experience through journaling prompts that encourage gratitude, presence, and self-awareness
  • Share insights and experiences in a supportive group space

Whether you’re new to mindfulness or photography, or looking to deepen your connection to the present moment, this session offers a gentle, creative way to slow down and reconnect.
